Evangelism Through Christ

I am a writer. And I never knew I can be a public speaker. It even feels perfect when you become God’s spokesperson even in just a day.

Sunday, July 6, 2008, I was tasked to deliver God’s word in our Adult ministry service. At first, I was anxious about the topic that I am going to share. But then, I remember, it will be God who’s gonna talk not me.

As I browse through the bible and other reading materials, God revealed me the topic about evangelism. Almost all verses and subjects that I look through tell me that evangelism is the right topic. WOuld you belive that even when i browse through my friends' blogs, GOd revealed signs? So I obeyed.

Later on, I have come up with ETC…. the memory abbreviation that I used. These letters stand for Evangelism Through Christ. These also stand for the checklist that I have shared with my brothers and sisters who attended the service.

The word of God during the service: Romans 1:16-17

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the
salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For
in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by
faith from first to last,[
a]
just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Indeed, we have nothing to be ashamed of when talking about the glory of our Father. Nonetheless, there are times that we tend to disobey the holy spirit. Like when we are trapped in a situation with a friend or a stranger. Many times, a conversation with someone brings us to a panic when the holy spirit asks us to introduce Jesus. We tend to struggle with the mind battle about where and how to start.

The main thing that God has brought up during that talk was about the success of evangelism. We must have a checklist called ETC.

3 relevant questions to answer:
E – are you EFFECTIVE?
T – are you TRUTHFUL?
C – are you COMPASSIONATE?

EFFECTIVE evangelism
Do you listen to the holy spirit? Do you know your audience or carefully build up good relationship with him/her/them? Do you know the purpose of sharing the gospel to him/her/them?

TRUTHFUL evangelism
Do you share biblical truths? How often do you browse the bible? How well do you know GOD? How big is your authority to talk about the gospel? Do you just invent responses to your friends’ queries?

COMPASSIONATE evangelism
Are you also in the pursuit for Christ-likeness? Are you as patient and considerate as Christ? Do you just choose whom to evangelize?

Glory to God for the teachings that he has again revealed to us. We are praying that we will achieve ETC to attain God’s righteousness. Indeed, it takes a lot of discipline to be a perfect God’s general. It is tough but we can do it anyway.

Focusing on evangelism. God revealed the topic and guided me to create the abbreviation ETC—Evangelism Through Christ. This stands for Effective, Truthful, and Compassionate evangelism. Romans 1:16-17 emphasized the power of CIPD level 3 the gospel and not being ashamed of it. Effective evangelism involves listening to the Holy Spirit and knowing the audience, truthful evangelism means sharing biblical truths, and compassionate evangelism requires Christ-like patience and inclusiveness. Glory to God for His teachings.
